Recently, the Project “The Design and Research Progress of Multi-port Endoscopic Surgical Robot” （project number：2017YFC0110402）leading by Prof. Zhu Shaihong’s team has won the support from National Key Research and Development Plan (R&D Plan) granted by the Peoples Republic of China Ministry of Science and Technology with the total fund amount of 5.65 million RMB yuan (≈0.9 million US dollar). In the industrialization process of domestic surgical robotic operation, this project was led by the WEGO company, and co-operated by Tianjin University, Third Xiangya Hospital of CSU, the General Hospital of the Peoples Liberation Army (PLAGH) and Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The core of this Project is to industrialize the domestic surgical robot. Based on the past success of a large number of basic research and animal experiments of the endoscopic surgical robot, the Project has passed the IRB reviewing and has been successfully finished the operation of gall-bladder removal and radical operation of intestinal cancer. This great achievement has marked our celiac minimally invasive surgical robot enter into a new era – the stage of clinical trials.

Thanking to the joint effort made by the Prof. Zhu Shaihong’s whole team, especially the several years positive results on the related researches which were funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the current key Project will focus on the core components’ “designed & made in China”, hence cutting down the costs of robotic surgery.
